I love this! It’s not quite the same, but I recently took 2ish weeks completely off Substack due to some health issues. I thought that I’d come back to something of a meltdown - but it was absolutely fine. And my nervous system needed it! So, thank you for affirming that it’s ok to step away 🙏
I'm so glad this found you, and it was one of the reasons I wanted to write this post... I think we need to share our experiences to give each other permission to take breaks. If we see everyone pushing full speed ahead all the time, we feel that we have to do the same. Here from others that they pushed pause for a minute lets us know it's safe for us to do the same. Plus, I think each time we do it, we do let our nervous system know it's safe to do so. Sending you, baby, and your family a hug!
Absolutely. I was so sad to read this week of a writer on here who lost six paid subscribers after taking a week off. I’ll definitely be taking a longer break once baby girl (finally!) arrives. Sending hugs back across the pond!
That is a beautiful picture, and reminds me of so many cherished memories with my late wife at this same time of year in rural Manitoba. Even when we became snowbirds, we were usually back by April, and would often take few days at the same lakeside hotel that we got married at, or later, just the one right on the beach in the town of Gimli.

Awesome.
I think that’s the first time I’ve unplugged like that in while. ❤️
